Story Overview

Daisuke Higashida is a serious, irritated, normal young man who takes a part-time job at Wagnaria family restaurant because his father's failed business left the family broke. His coworkers include: Hana Miyakoshi, who gives people chocolate as punishment; Yuuta Shindou, who is obsessed with money; Sayuri Muranushi, who can see ghosts; and Kouki Shiho, who refuses to come to work.

The comedy comes from the contrast between Higashida's desire for normalcy and the absolute impossibility of normalcy in this environment.

Characters

Daisuke Higashida — The straight man protagonist whose controlled frustration is the series' comedic anchor. His development of tolerance for his coworkers — and genuine attachment to them — is the series' character arc.

Hana Miyakoshi — The chocolate-punishment girl whose specific form of affection and Higashida's incomprehension of it is the series' central romantic thread.

Art Style

Takatsu's art is consistent with the Working!! parent series — expressive character designs and timing-focused comic panel work. The restaurant setting is consistent and functional.

Cultural Context

WWW.Working!! ran as a web manga simultaneously with the print Working!! and was adapted into anime as the second cours of the Working!! anime final season. The parallel-restaurant format allowed Takatsu to develop a different comedic dynamic with a new cast without disrupting the original.

What I Love About It

Miyakoshi's chocolate. The series' most distinctive running joke — giving someone chocolate as a punishment is extremely weird, and the specific circumstances under which she does this are deployed with escalating absurdity across 6 volumes.

What English-Speaking Fans Say

Western readers approach WWW.Working!! as a companion piece to the original — fans of Working!! find it a satisfying if lesser sequel; readers new to the setting find it accessible if not as developed. The Higashida/Miyakoshi romantic thread is the most discussed element.

Memorable Scene ⚠️ Spoiler Warning

The finale's resolution of the Higashida family situation and its relationship to what Higashida has gained through working at Wagnaria — the specific way personal growth shows up in professional context — is the series' most emotionally satisfying moment.
