- 12 volumes ongoing; M-rated action from a creator with a track record in the genre

Story Overview
Gates to Mato — the demon world — have appeared across Japan. Women who enter Mato and survive gain peaches, a supernatural ability used by the Demon Slayer Corps. Men cannot gain peaches; the corps is exclusively female.
Yuuki Wakura falls into Mato and is discovered by Kyouka Uzen, seventh unit captain. To bring a man back from Mato, a corps member must take him as a slave. Kyouka reluctantly agrees. Yuuki becomes her slave — which, unexpectedly, grants him a superpower. The more he fulfills his role as her slave, the stronger he becomes.
The series follows Yuuki and Kyouka's unit fighting demons while navigating the unusual power dynamic between them.
Characters
Yuuki Wakura — A protagonist whose power condition is the series' core conceit; his willingness to fulfill the slave role despite the implications establishes his character.
Kyouka Uzen — The captain whose effectiveness in battle is unquestioned and whose discomfort with the slave arrangement is genuine despite her role requiring it.
The seventh unit — An all-female corps whose members each have their own peach abilities and their own attitudes toward Yuuki's presence.
Art Style
Takemura's art handles both the M-rated content (explicitly) and the demon battle sequences (with clear visual impact). The demon designs are varied and the action choreography is competent.
Cultural Context
Chained Soldier is by Takahiro, the writer of Akame ga Kill. The mato/peach/slave power system is original to this series. The demon-slaying corps structure parallels real historical Japanese warrior organizations while using them for fantasy action purposes.
What I Love About It
The power system's relationship to character. Yuuki's strength is literally determined by how well he supports Kyouka. This creates an action manga where the protagonist's combat effectiveness depends on a dynamic that is not combat — the relationship quality shows up in battle.
What English-Speaking Fans Say
Western readers describe Chained Soldier as a solid M-rated action entry from an experienced creator — specifically noted for the power system being more interesting than the surface suggests, for the demon battles having real energy, and for Kyouka being a more developed captain than typical female commanders in M-rated action. Content level is consistently noted as significant.
Memorable Scene ⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Any fight where Yuuki's power reaches a new level because of a specific interaction with Kyouka — and the combat consequence is directly tied to the relationship dynamic — is the series' most specifically interesting action content.
